ridiculously hard tests (mr. hartman)

Hey, everyone

I'm a junior in Florida and i'm in APUSH. My teacher is pretty good, but his tests are ridiculously hard. I want to find out about other tests and teachers, so someone respond or email me.

The tests we have usually contain about 50-70 questions per unit (3-4 chapters) and regard mostly cause and effect of social programs or economic decisions.

Is it a good thing that I study 10 hours for them?

wing me a message and we can chat.

peace out

We get about 50 MC's then all kinds of fun stuff. Analyzing political cartoons, Identifying people, events, vocab and giving their historical significance. Then major essays and minor essays.

Sometimes we get lucky enough to have 40 MC and a DBQ.

The tests are not that hard for me, just painstakeing frustrating because it is essentially just writing pages of information and 2 hours. Not my kind of stuff.

and is that 10 hours, total on the unit, or for the test alone?

No, we take notes for about 2 weeks and then have a test. Essays are graded seperately in my class, but we have a mock AP coming up soon.

Actually, right now we are studying Vietnam and not taking notes, which is cool. We watch movies and anaylize music for the time period.

But seriously, should I have to study 8 hours just to get a 90??? I mean, the test on the New Deal required us to know over 20 different programs in the 100 days alone. That was only a 1/4 of the test.

My teacher is such a slacker, we have 50-60 MCQ tests, on two chapters every two weeks. We have done 2 DBQs and one was take home and the other was make an outline then did it it class using the outline.... But its his first year so whatever. Our tests arent too hard, I have missed reading a couple chapters from America Past and Prestent (second revised adition) and still can get Bs. Second reviesed addition isnt much different from the AP&P just more in detailed on certain things and skips a few less important things.

A lot of people seem to view our teacher's tests (Mrs. Strawman - MHS, Houston) as extremely hard, but I rarely study for them. The main problem is that people either don't take detailed notes, or listen in class to lectures or discussions. I normally get A's on the tests, or high B's while rarely studying. (Of course, I'm a major history buff, but that can't have anything to do with it... :))

Depends, is the 10 hours working for you?

Frankly it really depends. But 10 hours sounds like a long time! try studying in a different way. Try making one of those nemonics (spell?) where you use the first letter of each word in a funny sentance to remember things, it usually works for me. ALso, study with someone, not a best friend, otherwise you might get distracted. It helps to study with a partner to keep you focused and study more efficiently!! good luck!

We have a test every week, or sometimes 2x a week. once our teacher tested us for a week straight. all we do is lectures and tests, don't cry over it, thats a college for you. It's hard and a lot of work, but its standard, and it prepares me for the AP test.

Sorry i haven't posted in a while. I've been on break and slacked off on history.

Well, I found out some stuff about studying on my last test. 8 hours for three full chapter of the Pageant textbook just leaves me short of knowing it all. 10 hours got me the highest grade (90%) in the class by about 11 points.

Now all i do is just pay attention and read a bit more attentively. However, we did a bunch of AP practice quizzes and I found them very easy, so I'm not to worried.

If anyone in Mr. Hartman's class sees this, wing me a private message and i'll talk to you at school.

Wow. You guys seem to have really involved teachers. We are required to do outlines on each chapter and then we listen to his lectures (he reads from straight from the book) and then we take the test--straight multiple choice on three or four chapters and one or two essays.

I don't feel prepared at all for the AP test.

Our teachers lectures are POINTLESS!!! She uses the outlines from this site to make her lectures... there is almost no aditional information added
