The late 1800s marked a rise in imperialism in the U.S. After a war with Spain in 1898 the U.S. gained territory in the Pacific and in the Caribbean. Theodore Roosevelt expanded the original meaning of the Monroe Doctrine in Latin America.

Current reregulations do not consider the cause of a financial crisis as criteria for forming new legislation.
Reregulation seems to retry old regulations that did not work the way they though it would. Instead of taking a look at how new regulation can be innovative and effective, legislation tends to go back and forth trying to solve the same problems with the same solutions

Problems included the Women's Trade Union League, the National Consumers League, and Settlement homes. In Muller vs. Oregon, the Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutional to enact laws that specifically protected women factory workers.
