Summary
This Chapter is about the ancient Indian civilizations such as the Harappan and Gupta. The first Indian civilization was the Harappan. They traded early and created a written form of language. Once the Harappan civilization ends, the caste system and the different varnas are created. Hinduism was greatly related to the caste system. When Siddharta was born, he was protected from the cruelties of the outside world. He searched for “truth and meaning” and created a new religion: Buddhism. Meanwhile, the Upanishads rose followed by the Indo-Aryans, Magadha, and the Gupta.
