Sheet1 THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR In President Lincoln first Campaign his running mate was Hannibal Hamlin, his main opponent was John C Breckinridge Lincoln took the entire north except for 3 electoral votes in New Jersey and none in the south 1860 Crittenden Compromise was a compromise that would extend the Missouri Compromise line all the way to California so all the states south of the line would be slave states and everything north of the line would be free states it was marginal interest to the south but was shoot down in congress All the states that secede from the union was from December 20, 1860-May 20, 1861 included the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia 1861
