Justification of War There are three broad positions on whether war can be justified or not. Realpolitik Suggests that war, as a political act, needs no moral justification. war is accepted as a universal norm of human history, peace is always temporary While criticizing liberal approach, the realist believed that it is better to be ?hard-headed? than ?wrongheaded? Just war theory ? suggests that war can be justified only if it conforms to moral principles. The idea of a ?just war? is based on the assumption that war can be justified and should be judged on the basis of ethical criteria. War of 1812 DBQ The War of 1812 is one of the forgotten wars of the United States. The war lasted for over two years, and ended in stalemate. It did however, once and for all confirm American Independence. The offensive actions of the United States failed to capture Canada. On the other hand, the British army was successfully stopped when it attempted to capture Baltimore and New Orleans. There were a number of American naval victories in which American vessels proved themselves superior to similarly sized British vessels. Instructions: Read Documents 1-6 to answer questions #1-10 as well as the Essay Question. Essay Question: Explain the causes and consequences of the War of 1812, why is it often known as the Second War of Independence.

Causes: Great Britain had violated American Sovereignty by refusing to surrender western forts as promised in the Treaty of Paris Great Britain began stopping American sea vessels and forcing subjects on the vessels into the British military. Samoa: 1898 Germany vs US over Samoa- There was a Samoan crisis and conflict between Germany, USA, and Great Britain. During the Samoan Civil War. 1899 US vs Germany Split- The conflict was ended in the Tripartite Convention in 1899. The Convention stated that the Samoan archipelago would be split between German and American sides. German Samoa eventually became a republic while we still hold American Samoan.
