Siobhan Finlay Franco PD ? 9/15/11 Chapter 3 Questions The Puritans did not really come to America seeking religious freedom. They were actually fleeing royal wrath. They left Holland in 1608 because they felt their children were becoming too ?dutchified?. They wanted to find a place where they could live and die as both English men and as purified Protestants. They rectified their own religious dissent from the Church of England with their persecutions of Hutchinson because they believed that their religion was the best one.
