WORK, ENERGY, AND POWER Objective: 82 ? Describe the relationship between force, displacement, and work change in an object's motion is related to both force and how long it acts net force x distance = WORK WORK = the product of the NET FORCE an object and the DISTANCE through which the object is moved the heavier the load or higher something is lift, the more we do WORK IS DONE WHEN A FORCE ACTS ON AN OBJECT AND THE OBJECT MOVES IN TEH DIRECTION OF THE FORCE EXAMPLE: If we lift TWO loads up one story, we do TWICE as much WORK as we would in lifting one load the same distance because the FORCE needed to lift TWICE the weight is twice as great, and if we lift one load two stories instead of one story, we do twice as much work because the DISTANCE is twice as great

Katherine Kerr Art History 9/18/13 Ms. Freeman Red Disaster by Andy Warhol When visiting the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, One would probably not head straight to the contemporary art wing. With several prominent artists on display, hours could be spent drifting through the American wing, rife with Copleys, or looking at the Ancient Near Eastern art. Some don?t even know that the contemporary wing is no longer under construction and open to the public. However, amid the numerous beeping sounds of people standing too close to art, or simply being ignorant of the fact that what stands before them is not trash that someone had left in the exhibit, there hangs 12 silkscreened pictures with an important message on a red background stark against a white wall.

The History of Cars Topic Two: Muscle Cars of the 1960?s Have you ever wondered what cars from the 60?s were like, and even what they meant? American automobiles from the 1960?s were based upon the American identity of the time period, and we wanted bigger, faster cars, which lead to the muscle car. Not only did muscle cars during the 1960?s impact the American Identity because of their appeal to young people who were questioning authority, but also because the designs of these cars were aimed at American buyers in hopes to reduce the amount of imported cars purchased by Americans.

4.02 The work of art pictured is Theodora?s Mosaic in the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. Theodora was Justinian?s wife whom he married for love. Her humble origin set a precedent for empresses in a lower class chosen for their beauty. Theodora is shown wearing purple and abundance of jewels; even more than the mosaic opposite this one depicting Justinian. The connection between church and state are key elements to the mosaic. Theodora?s robe at the bottom shows the three magi from the nativity story. She is shown holding a cup used for Holy Communion. The bright and various colors of the robes of the courtiers are characteristic of Byzantine Art. The halo around Theodora?s head makes her seem as not just the Emperor?s wife but a Christian ruler in her own right.

4.04 Religion influences art by bringing to the forefront of the artwork important principals and lessons that are taught in that specific religion. The Islamic example I selected is the dome of the Selimiye Mosque. The other work of art I have selected is Christ as the Good Shepherd from the Catacomb of Priscilla. Both of these works of art have elements specific to their religion.
