Fauvism refers to ?wild animals,? and this school is characterized by much use of primary colors and symbolism Expressionism Much of this art was created during an age of anxiety concerning the present and future, as militarism and unbridled imperialism strode across the globe?..the German artists began a school called Der Bruecke, the Bridge?.. The Apse mosaic from S. Apollinare Classe, Ravenna in Italy by an anonymous painter and The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh both illustrate a visionary experience in each of their times and cultures. The Apse mosaic from S. Apollinare Classe portrays the Transfiguration of Christ and was painted during the early Byzantine Empire between the years 533 and 549 CE in Ravenna, northern Italy. In contrast, Vincent van Gogh?s, oil on canvas, The Starry Night was created during the post-impressionist period in 1889 in the French village of Saint-Remy, however it is now hanging in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. I decided to use these two works of art because they both hold significant meaning and representation during the time in which they were painted.

Katherine Kerr Art History 9/18/13 Ms. Freeman Red Disaster by Andy Warhol When visiting the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, One would probably not head straight to the contemporary art wing. With several prominent artists on display, hours could be spent drifting through the American wing, rife with Copleys, or looking at the Ancient Near Eastern art. Some don?t even know that the contemporary wing is no longer under construction and open to the public. However, amid the numerous beeping sounds of people standing too close to art, or simply being ignorant of the fact that what stands before them is not trash that someone had left in the exhibit, there hangs 12 silkscreened pictures with an important message on a red background stark against a white wall.

Trey Sullivan Pablo Picasso Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga. He died on April 8, 1973, in Mougins. He was famous for painting, sculpting, and printmaking, but he is most known for his painting. He was raised in France and was trained by his father. He also received training at the Real Acedemia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. He showed signs of being a very good artist at a young age In the year 1900 Picasso made his first trip to Paris which at the time was the art capitol of the world. His first year there was spent in poverty; he even had to burn his own work to heat his small apartment. Then in 1901 he moved to Madrid and began drawing for a magazine. In 1905 his work started to be collected.

Summary on Jewish Art

Jewish Art The Biblical Bezalel--whose name literally means, "in the shadow or protection of God"--was the Jewish artisan appointed specifically by God to build the Tabernacle (Exodus 31:2). So if one defines Jewish art as the works of Jewish artists, one of the earliest works of Jewish art lay in God's command to Bezalel regarding the construction of the Tabernacle. The Bible details the beautiful work of Jewish hands in the building of the First Temple in Jerusalem under the direction of King Solomon. It is described as overlaid with gold and decorated with cherubim (I Kings 6). The Talmud describes the beauty of the Herod's Second Temple, declaring, "He who has not seen the Temple in its full construction has never seen a glorious building in his life" (Tractate Succot 51b).
