PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY Russia is by far the biggest country. Its area is roughly 6.6 million miles; because Russia is so big it has a diverse temperature. In some places it is sub artic while others it is warmer. Russia has the longest river and the deepest river in the world. The population is ranked 6th in the world. The Ural Mountains stretch over 2100 km. Some regions in Russia have subsoil that is permanently frozen. Chapter 4: Fundamentals of Population, Location, Distribution & Density Demography ? Study of population. Key issues in population geography are population growth & migration. World population is growing in poorer countries by 80 million per year. Distribution of population describes location where people live, Population Density is the measure of number of people per unit area. Arithmetic population density is an average and is not a true measure. Physiological population density is the total population to area of cultivable land. There is strong correlation between high population density & areas with expanses of arable (farmable) land. Population data is unreliable!! Why ? because of high costs involved and disorganized information.

AP Human Geography Geography What is geography? There are several components that make up this field of study. Geography explores the physical, social, and human aspects of the earth. All of these features interact with each other and affect where and how life occurs. According to James Rubenstein, ?Geography is both a physical and social science? (Rubenstein.) Rubenstein goes on to say when the field of study concentrates on physical features such as vegetation, climate and soil, it is a natural science. When areas such as languages, population growth and migration are studied it is a social science. The exploration of a population within a region, as well as the interaction this population has with other regions throughout the world concentrates on human geography.
