New England vs. The Chesapeake

The settlers of New England and the Chesapeake region shared a common language, history, and heritage. However, this was all they had in common. Regardless of the similar English origins of the settlers, by 1700, the colonies had become two distinct societies. The varying motives, the composition of regional groups, and the dissimilar forms of government caused this difference in development to occur.
