Connie Cheng IB Biology SL- Block 2 Fluoxetine Fluoxetine is an antidepressant (of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class) commonly known in the product Prozac. This is used for treatment of serious clinical depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, bulimia, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Fluoxetine is metabolized by the isoenzymes of the cytochrome P450 system, including CYP2D6, in the liver. The only biologically active metabolite of fluoxetine is norfluoxetine.
