Star Light, Star Bright; Does Jack Shine Tonight? By: Kayleigh Hursh How does Stanley Kubrick?s The Shining keep its audience so well captivitated throughout the duration of the film? Kubrick takes his viewers on the exhilarating journey of Jack Torrance?s psychological break-down through the psychic eyes of his son, Danny. While this is interesting, it is not nearly as exciting as the other possibility. As stated above, it is easily spotted that Danny Torrance has a link to the supernatural, it also becomes vaguely apparent through various hints, including alcohol dependence, rage, a gradual loss of his grip on reality, and perhaps the most obvious, his own visions, that Jack, too shines.
