This simile describing Moishe the Beadle is important and helps give the reader a better understanding of how the Jews of Sighet thought of him. Describing Moishe?s awkwardness shows the lack of importance shown to him foreshadowing how Jews of Sighet will not pay attention to his warnings of impeding danger. ?Three days later, a new decree: every Jew had to wear the yellow star? (Wiesel 11).
