Dialectical Journal for Night by Elie Wiesel Quotations from the Text Commentary/Response to Quotations ?Physically, he was as awkward as a clown. His waiflike shyness made people smile? (Wiesel 3). This simile describing Moishe the Beadle is important and helps give the reader a better understanding of how the Jews of Sighet thought of him. Describing Moishe?s awkwardness shows the lack of importance shown to him foreshadowing how Jews of Sighet will not pay attention to his warnings of impeding danger. ?Three days later, a new decree: every Jew had to wear the yellow star? (Wiesel 11).
