Day of Silence Assignment # 6 Response By: Nick Chou The first Day of Silence day was held on April 20th 1996. The first Day of Silence day was found and started by students who attend the University of Virginia. The purpose of the Day of Silence was to respond to one of their class assignments of non-violent protests, a project of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). California isn?t the only state to participate in the Day of Silence. Many other states participate in this eventful day as well as New Zealand.
