Expansion, settlement and trade growth in West, creation of new states the end of the first party system Virginia Dynasty: 1800 & on, presidency dominated by Virginians (Jefferson James Madison James Monroe)= north unhappy yet Monroe still elected in 1816 Monroe in office during peaceful time (federalist decline= little party opposition, no international threats) Monroe tried to include people from N, E, S, & W? new Englander John Quincy Adams was his secretary of state (past secretary of states became president= Virginia Dynasty end, NE Adams will be next president)
