These people called the Parthians eventually became a major force in 247 BCE. A Chinese general named Zhang Jian made a journey crossing deserts and other landmasses and encountered westward flowing rivers. He obtained a special breed of horses and started what became known as the Silk Road. The Sasanid Empire The Rise of the Empire The Sasanid Empire rivaled against Rome in the border of Europe and Asia. They heavilly relied on the silk roads to gain acess to resources their land could not provide. They often traded their silver work for many other things like eggplant, citrus tres, and other crops.
