This is the 2nd installment of what is now a 3 installment article!

Couple of weeks ago, I wrote to you about Ramadan to answer popular questions. Last time I wrote to you about the inside details of Ramadan and how it works. But what I think people don't get is why? Why on earth would you do this to yourself? Why forbid yourself from eating AND drinking for 15 hours? I get looks and questions that you would not believe. So here I am again to clear up some issues. And for those of you do not want to read another blog about Ramadan or Islam’s inside workings. Then Don’t.

This article is for those of you who are seniors, CLASS OF 2010!! And for those of you who are not- go away and read this next year(just kidding). But we have NINE months left till graduation. So what do to the teachers want us to do? Think about college. It's bad enough that we are getting pressure from home, but now school is starting to talk to us about it too! That is all anyone ever talks about anymore. I eat, drink, sleep and socialize with college on my mind. Sometimes i cannot even fall asleep because I am thinking too much about college. When does it end?

Saturday, August 22nd marked the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan. I am writing this article because ever since it has started my non-muslim friends are very curious as to what this Holy month is all about.

Fasting is the third pillar of Islam(out of five-they are similar to the 10 commandments). It is a must for all muslims. Ramadan is a time when from Sunrise to Sunset you do not eat or drink anything. Kind of like Lent, except we cannot have anything.

Is is just me or is everyone fed up with the phrase " You must be 18 years of age or older to...". Every decent job has an age requirement of 18 or older. Is this really fair to those who are above 16, can drive, and are mature for their age? Office jobs are out of the question, because supposedly all minors are preoccupied with drugs and sex to keep a steady job. But now, even jobs at the local malls are asking for over 18-ers(as I like to call them). This is a discrimination to the minors out there in DESPERATE need of employment.

AP or Regular?
Every year around scheduling time students ask each other this question: AP or Regular? Here is a pro/con list of taking AP’s to help you during the scheduling process:

Pros
• Advanced Placement Courses allow time for intellectual discussions.
• The curriculum is designed to challenge you rather than just the basics.
• It is taught at an accelerated pace.
• Weighted on a 5.0 scale rather than the 4.0 scales.
• If successful in the class than college credit may be available (depends on the college)

Having a medical problem in high school can be complicated without having to worry about grades and social responsibilities. High school is already a rough time in a teenager’s life, and on top of that you are known as the “sick girl”. Being sick in high school can jeopardize your GPA, which is a defining factor in the college application process. The key to dealing with a MP in high school is to talk to your teachers and counselors. Let them know that you expect to be treated equally but let them know that if you do miss school you are not slacking off.
