Must 18 years or older to read this..sike!

Aug 17, 2009

Is is just me or is everyone fed up with the phrase " You must be 18 years of age or older to...". Every decent job has an age requirement of 18 or older. Is this really fair to those who are above 16, can drive, and are mature for their age? Office jobs are out of the question, because supposedly all minors are preoccupied with drugs and sex to keep a steady job. But now, even jobs at the local malls are asking for over 18-ers(as I like to call them). This is a discrimination to the minors out there in DESPERATE need of employment. Not like there wasn't already a big whammy for us because we are 1-2 years behind the requirement, they then proceed to stereotype us a irresponsible and childish. I am 17, and I am more mature than any 18 year old I have met. These requirements should be adjusted so that those who qualify every other aspect of the job can still be considered at least for an interview.

So, I say take the initiative. Talk to the managers, the supervisors, see if there is a loophole so that you could be considered. Ask relatives or friends for information on local jobs that you could apply to. You could do some research yourself. Here are some sites that are helpful : Snagajob.com; teens4hire.com; and myfirstpaycheck.com. Yahoo HotJobs is helpful as well. Networking is the best thing for us under 18-ers=)
