Surviving a Long Plane Flight

When traveling more than four hours on a plane, things can get boring and uncomfortable, but there are a few things you can do to make the trip more enjoyable. Whether it takes eight hours or eighteen, here are indispensible items you should bring in your carry on:

-A fully charged iPod or mp3 player
-PSP/gameboy if you have one
-eyemask
-earplugs (or noise cancelling headphones if you have them)
-snacks (crackers, fruit snacks, etc)
-a magazine
-a toothbrush
-your own pillow
-a jacket or light blanket in case it gets cold
-lotion
-a waterbottle
-if traveling with family, sit next to someone you know you won’t be bothered much by
-any reading or schoolwork you could catch up on

I suggest not putting on too much makeup since it’ll probably melt or smudge off during sleep if it’s an overnight flight. Don’t be surprised if you can’t get much sleep, but try to get some. Get up and stretch your legs and get the most out of those movies they play in flight. If you have the unfortunate luck of sitting in front of an annoying five year old who delights in kicking the back of your seat nonstop or the guy in front of you reclined his seat all the way, don’t hesitate to tell them to stop. Contrary to most tv shows, flight attendants aren’t mean and short tempered, so don’t be afraid to ask them for another cup of water.

Concerning food, depending on the airline you may or may not be served food/snacks/drinks for free but if you are, know that there are vegetarian options and really, the chicken doesn’t taste as bad as it seems. If you follow these tips, you can be sure to sit back, relax and enjoy your flight!
