What To Do This Summer

Summer is a time of "catch up." It gives you time to do everything you put aside during the school year. It is important to be aware of this extra time and take advantage of it. Many students use this time to get ahead in school and prepare for the upcoming year. For example, many use summer as a time to study for the SATs. Some are signed up for classes or have a tutor, while others prefer to study on their own. Apart from this, many use summertime to read a good book they could not during the year, or go to a sports camp. Whatever it is that interests you, it's important to use this extra time to "catch up" on something you missed out on.

I have noticed how easy it is to fall into a pattern of sleeping late into the morning, watching tv, and going on the computer the whole day. Though it may be a very relaxing way to spend summer, I have noticed that it is not the best way to take advantage of it. Instead it would be better to enjoy the warmer days, hang out with friends and exercise. The warmer weather makes it more fun to walk outside and enjoy the panorama.

Another way to try something that interests you is to get an internship. Many students intern to get experience at working at what they hope to become. In this way, you are using your summertime to the fullest!

Similarly, others get a job. For example, many become camp counselors or work at their local ice cream shop. This is a good way to not only make some extra money but also be active and hardworking.

Another option is to explore! This could mean many things. For example, you could explore this wilderness by hiking and camping out. You could, also, explore an amusement park or visit a place new to you. (Some great amusement parks are Dorney Park and Six Flags) You can, also, explore the insides of Museums (such as MOMA -Museum of Modern Art) or explore Broadway! If you do not know what to do with your summer, do not hesitate! You can explore the internet and quickly find what you are looking for. Online there are loads of websites that offer helpful summer tips. Here are some:

- Gather up a few friends, and have a picnic in your backyard
- Go on a walk and take pictures of trees, flowers, dogs, etc.
- Buy some fashion magazines, pick out a couple of really cute outfits, and try to recreate them for less!
- Do 25 jumping jacks!
- Clean your room!
- Write a poem.
- Draw a self-portrait.
- Make a smoothie.

Lastly, the following shows how great summer is (so enjoy it!) :

"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade."
~Gertrude Jekyll
