So you've landed that interview at Publix. The manager saw your resume, it looked good enough, and now he wants to talk to you face to face, learn a little more about the "personal side" of you.
What first, right? I'm sure you've heard hundreds of tidbits on what to do. Keep eye contact, look at him directly, but not forcefully, yet not too passively. Shake his hand, web to web and firm. Not too hard though! Confusing, I know.
So today, I'll be starting with the most basic thing that many people seem to overlook. Your dress.
1. Business casual: This is a job/college/position interview. No interview is ever casual, and as such, no interviewee should ever dress casually. I'm not asking that you wear a suit to a Publix interview, but make sure you aren't wearing jeans and a T-shirt.
1a. Long khakis are a must, nothing flashy like yellow or red. Acceptable colors are black, grey, navy blue, and traditional khaki colors.
1b. A long button-down is nice, once again avoid flashy colors, and in addition avoid black. It's an interview, not a funeral. I recommend white or light blue. White colored shirts usually work better.
1c. Ties are nice. Just make sure they match.
1d. Shoes, not sneakers. Dress shoes may be a bit too formal, try Sperry's boat shoes.
More to come,
