dern illegal im'grants

Due to my school locking down on multiple times last week due to protesters, fear of walkouts, etc. over the recent legislation, I've decided to ask ya'lls opinions.

Personally, I believe Bush has at least one thing right with wanting a guest worker program. Then they can work towards their eventual citizenship (if they want it).

Mexico is horrible for the majority of Mexicans. It's incredibly hard for the poorer classes to make a living. America is the land of opportunity, it isn't hard to see why they want to work here.

You may say, "just come here legally". Easier said than done. It can take years. If you're trying to make money in America to support your family you probably don't have years to spare. There also obviously needs to be lots of reform in the current legal immigration process.

But if you tell me immigrants are stealing jobs from Americans, I totally agree. I was totally going to go sell oranges on the side of the freeway this morning, but some darn illegals beat me to it.

HAHAHAHAHA!

I told you to create an thread and I'd be glad to argue with you. The only trouble is that I totally agree with everything you just said!! I don't even have anything to add.

And I sympathize with you too about that job selling oranges. I tried to get a job cleaning toilets for minimum wage, but those dern immigrants were just too fast fer me!!

It obviously creates economic problems, but my main deal is that deporting them all is not the solution. That would create uneccessary racial tension, and cause Mexico to go even deeper into economic decay, (more workers forced to find work only in Mexico, the reason they're coming over to the U.S. in the first place...) making the idea of working in the U.S. even more promising...

At the moment we have what I like to call a "HOLY SHIT!" deficit. I'm sure your standard of living is not all too affected by this. Why? That report shows their individual deficits and the like, but says nothing about the good their cheap labor does to the economy by keeping prices lower.

I like your terminology.

Yeah the terminology wins.

I live in pennsylvania, so this is "hate mexicans" country up here. So I'm a fan of a super hard illegal immigration crackdown.

The illegal group we have to look out for up here are canadians...but no one's particularly worried about them taking jobs and the like...

Okay, but the VAST majority are either Mexican or from another similarly poor Latin American country. This thread is about them, yeah?

If you say so. It is your debate after all. Oh, and FYI if you called 9/10 of the latinos at my school mexicans, you'd be attacked by Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, well, you get the picture.
