Ok everyone, I'm feeling adventerous so I'm starting the debate: who was the best and worst President of American history?
Rules: State President(s) / Years of Term(s) followed by a description of WHY he was good/bad. Your reasoning must be from as much fact as possible, as this is more objective than subjective. I'll go first.
Best President Ever: James K. Polk. Polk was simply amazing, due to the fact that he expanded America's borders and kicked a lot of butt on the way. Not to mention, he lowered the tariffs (a popular move), as well got some railroadage from the east to the west (ala Gadsen Purchase). He managed to make as little people angry at the time and boosted American Nationalism.
Worst President Ever: James Buchanan. Wow, this guy is the epitome of loserdome. Not only did he let S Carolina secede with no militaristic action, he basically sat in office doing only what congress told him to. He literally did nothing important in office.
Best: FDR
Worst: Nixon
(will edit later with reasons, sorry not enough time)
Nixon was actually good. There was a major boost in the economy during his presidency. The only thing that brought him down was the Watergate Scandal.

We never formally studied the Nixon administration, but I do know that there was also the Iran-contra scandal. He escaped a court summons only because two members of his administration got off using the fifth.

Best President Ronald Reagan.
40th President
1981–1989
Party: Republican
Ronald Reagan was one of the best communicators in American history. During his presidency Ronald Reagan had an excellent economic program and a great foreign policy toward the Soviet Union and Socialists. During his presidency he was wildly supported by the public reciving 60 percent of the popular vote during his second election. Reagan was for lower taxes, a small government, deregulation (removal of regulations or restrictions), and he had a very strong "tough-on-crime" stance.
Withing the first three minutes of his inauguration was the end of the Iran hostage crisis and American hostages were freed. One of Reagans first acts in his presidency was to reduce oil price controls. Which boosted American domestic production and exploration of oil.
In 1983 Ronald began a economic recovery program that boosted the American economy.
He increased tax revenues which boosted jobs which increased income tax revenues during the 1980's from $517 billion to over $1 trillion per annum.
During the Reagan presidency, the inflation rate dropped from 13.6% in 1980 (President Carter's final year in office) to 4.1% by 1988, the economy added 16,753,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell from 7.5% to 5.3%.
Finally he was a great speaker. His speech on June 12, 1987 Ronald Reagan challenged socialism exclaiming “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
Worst President (hmm so many to choose from)
Ill get back on that later
You guys are really judgemental... that's not cool. I, for one, spend as much time and effort as I can on this site so as to improve my knowledge going into the next 8-10 years of schooling i have. I like debating it gives me extra insight and sometimes a new twist on ideas I thought I had cemented into place.
That may sound like I'm a nerd but this is only part of my roughly 18 hour day. I swim for competition at my school, am a member of 3 recreational clubs, lifegaurd during the summer (with some very hot chicks), right now I'm getting a job at this rock climbing place where I live, and I have an awesome time over the weekend at parties I go to cuz of my friend's bands. So to all those who think some of us nerds... blow it out your ear and go the f#@$ away!
My favorite president was also james k polk for the same reasons. but my least favorite president... well I don't have one really. all of our presidents have made decent if not wonderful contributions to our country even if they did some/alot of bad in their presidential terms.
"I have a feeling I'm falling on rare occasions but most of the time I have my feet on the ground, I can't help it if the ground itself is falling."
Best - Lincoln~Well i know he didnt have the best presidency...buht yah gotta give this guy props.
