Wow, that article is awful.
Quote:the Bible remains one unified book from beginning to end without contradiction.
Here are 400:
http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/by_name.html
(Not to mention that the Bible depicts greatly immoral things, contradicting today's view of morality)
Quote:Not only was it foretold where He would be born and what family He would come from, but also how He would die and that He would rise again on the third day. There simply is no logical way to explain the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible other than by divine origin.
This is circular. It asserts the truth of the religion in an attempt to prove the truth of the religion. It might as well just say "The Bible is true just cuz lol"
Quote:homosexuals have been set free by it,
Yeah, sorry, your link just destroyed itself right there. Indeed, this argument is so easily turned it is almost absurd: the amount of suffering that the Bible has caused for gays and lesbians around the world is enormous, and hardly the work of an all-capable all-loving God. In fact, homosexuality can be used to disprove God.
I don't see that there is any need to go on, because the issue of homosexuality opens up such an incredible can of worms for Christianity that, no matter the answer, the Bible cannot be true: God either created a class of people to hate (thus indicating his malevolent nature), God was unable to prevent their creation (thus contradicting the story of creation and the implication of his omnibenevolence), or God is just fine with homosexuality (and thus the literal word of the Bible is not true). With that contradiction right there, the Bible is disproven.
Quote:It continues to be attacked by science, psychology, and political movements and yet remains just as true and relevant today as it was when it was first written.
So, I suppose if you don't value science or logic or empirical support at all, and instead prefer to think of things as being true or not true depending on whether you WANT them to be true or not true, the Bible can be as true as you want it to be!

If God does exist, and God is all powerful and what not, why doesn't he make it so everyone believes in him? Why would God not make everyone believe he exists and pray for him and praise him?
because God wants people to choose to believe in him, it's supposed to be part of his punishment for what Adam and Eve did. It is a way to insure that sinners dont get into heaven because only the pure and true believers deserve that right...
and I personally am Athiest but...
How could one such as myself answer such a question without so much as a second glance?
God is real and he is your Savior. He is the one that created you and you should not question His ways, for He knows what is right. Sure, trying to gain faith in Him is hard at times (it used to be for me) but you must go through the glass to experience the light...
has anyone watched the zeitgeist movie?
here's the link: zeitgeistmovie.com
i believe that all pageant religions were based off of the worship of the sun(ex. the Mayans) as told the zeitgeist movie. and personally i think that religion has done more harm than good in humanity to me it just seems as a scapegoat for your sins (ex. ''the devil did it'' or "god will forgive all my sins'') so people don't have to take the blame for their actions...
but i respect people's opinions and if they want to believe in god then its their choice...i dont really have a problem...except when radical ppl always try to convert me ..grr every weekend they ring my doorbell and try to make me a christian...lol...wow way off topic...srry~

everyone has their own beliefs and opinions. If people dont want to believe in God and risk going to hell then let them, dont try and convert a person who you just saw online especially in such a pushy way... just my 2 cents, I really dont want to get into a fight about this, I get enough at school...

Personally , I feel that there is a God and that a series of random events and alot of luck are not the cause of the creation of this planet, if that where the case would we not be seeing unique new species of animal that would somehow evolve into humans today? I mean our volcanic regions do resemble the conditions of prehistoric earth.
I am indeed an avid believer in god but i can see how some doubt there is one due to the lack of present day evidence and the beleif that religion was created to give human kind a moral basis and help the vatican gain much from indulgences.
There is no other explanation to the intricasies of the human body then a superior being.
That ofcousre is just my opinion.
well personally i prett much have a pretty good relationship with God and i mean i understand the doubt that others have i mean i have gone through it a crapload of times im not even gunna lie but in the end one has to ask himself why they are here i mean thats basically the overall truth that everyone wants to know which is why i still believe in god because i feel that there is purpose. but yea i have gone through questions that my own parents and my pastor have been able to not answer directly but i will never forget what one of my dear friends said, and i will paraphrase: Look out in nature and what do we see? we see many astonishing things dont we? we see beautiful flower orchards, we see incredible trees, we see Mt. Everest in awe, we see beautiful springs and oasises, we see incredible waterfalls, we see unimaginable space and the many wonders which are still to be discovered. His point was there is no way that this universe in which we live was of coincidence. Emotion had to be incorporated into the creation of the universe. and what of the concience in which every individual has? i mean one can agree that everyone has one, to an extent since there are people that are almost out of one. but that concience is always there. I mean i respect the doubt i go through it all the time but i guess all it boils down to is faith

I randomly hit keys on my keyboard. The probability of that specific sequence is 1 in 3.94187650154532*10^236. In other words, it's pretty unlikely that I would get THAT specific pattern - yet, obviously, I did. Does that mean that God took a personal interest in this post and guided my fingers? After all, the probability is so small that we might as well call it 0, right? So if it's impossible, then obviously God *did* create the sequence himself! What if I allow for punctuation marks or symbols or Russian letters or Chinese symbols? What if I type five pages of random garbage? The probability becomes so incredibly minute! I must have divine fingers!
Or not. Over a long period of time, unlikely events become likely, and the chance of life arising may not be all that unlikely at all. Plus, there is a bias: we would only know if life arose if life arose, and so we have a bit of a human-centered bias (interpreting that the whole universe was created for us, rather than we came out of the universe).
Arguments by beauty are not particularly convincing - beauty is a human concept that has no applicability to anything else. Emotion doesn't "have" to be incorporated into anything: I *really really* want to be a millionaire, but my emotions don't chance the facts. If all humans were to disappear, the facts would still be the same, showing that emotion plays no part in scientific analysis.
Plus, the universe is an evolutionary process, not a completely random process. Suppose that we take 0 to mean "Failure" and 1 to mean "Success" as it relates to developing life. Suppose further that the probability of 0 is 99% and the probability of 1 is 1%. Your argument supposes that 1 will always have a 1% probability no matter what, but in fact the probability of 1 goes up each time we get 1. Thus, it would look more like "00000001000100001001011010010101110111011111011111111" rather than "00000000000100000000000000010000000000000000000000000".
