religion was perhaps the greatest factor in the establishment of the northern colonies. In fact, new england was established for religious freedom. many puritans, such as the separatist pilgrims, left to america have the freedom to worship christanity the way they saw fit.

some well known examples include mass. bay colony, penn, and maryland

not really because the protestant reformation took place in the 1530s which was before the colonization of america. protestantism became the dominant denomination in england after the ascent of queen elizabeth in 1558.

spain and england were bitter towards each other due to the religious difference but after the defeat of the spanish armada, england basically had control of the northern atlantic. afterwards in 1604, the two nations signed a peace treaty fully enabling england to colonize.

the first colony, virginia, was established in 1607 so the colonists were already protestant. but i guess it could have played a part in colonization indirectly...

I have a fairly broad question pertaining to outlining.
well, that's wrong, kind of.
i need to write an outline, and i need four headings, and three subheadings for each topic.

if you help with either of these i will be eternally grateful:

American Revolution: Immediate Causes and the Political Rebellion
-what were the immediate causes of the american revolution- and how were americans split in their loyalties? What political activities took place during the war?

-items that must be discussed: economic discord, political discord, social discord, philosophical influences, continental congresses, declaration of independence, 'Common sense.'

--with this first one, i need most help with the three discords, and incorporating them into this, as well as the patriots v loyalists section.

secondly, i have another outline.

i am completely stumped with this one, so far i have come up with mercantilism for a main heading.

Anglo-American colonial relations

-what was the nature of the relationship between britain and her american colonies as time evolved?

-items that must be discussed: mercantilism & specific economic ties and relationships, triangular trade, salutary neglect, political relationships

it asks that i don't discuss the revolution or the immediate causes of the revolution.

I am so desperate!!

Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settles largely by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in development occur?

differences began long ago...
-motivation in settling
-economy
-early life

most settlers came to the chesapeake for more land and to gain wealth. settlers from new england arrived in hopes of religious freedom. because of the fertile soil of the chesapeake, staple crops (tobacco) were grown. the stretch of land in the chesapeake was occupied by large plantantions which led to a slower development in cities and education. meanwhile, the new englanders' rocky land barely allowed them to plant crops at all. of course there were small farms but plantations did not work and were not profitable. so instead the new englanders fostered their economy by going into industries- the two largest being fishing and shipbuilding. due to the lack of plantations and the strong religious and family ties of the puritans, cities were very quick to develop. new england also established harvard and provided elementary education in towns of more than 50 families.

another thing you might want to add is the early life of these two regions. life in the chesapeake was harsh and with little women, men were desperate to find mates. diseases killed many in their prime and there was a high amount of premarital births. men often came individually and planted tobacco before they planted corn.

the early life of the new englanders was the exact opposite. the climate prevented the spread of diseases and settlers often came in families maintaining a strong ties that exist to this day. life expectancy rose due to the good conditions and it is said that new englanders invented grandparents. there were also very low premarital births though new england women gave birth to an average of 10 children.
