High school comes with a lot of obstacles: class, homework, grades, sports, clubs, deadlines, meetings, work, community service, family, friends, curfews  (just to name a quick dozen). Since showing up freshman year, it’s been an all out sprint trying to poise ourselves to receive scholarships, get into our preferred university so we can get credible advanced degrees and land the perfect career. Hold on, how am I already in my thirties?

It’s time to take a break and act our age for a minute.

Chances are that, at some point in your life, you'll be taking the SAT. If you prepare for it properly, you shouldn't have much trouble doing well on it. Here are five tips that you can use to perform better on it.

First, you need to study for it. That seems like a given, but a lot of people fail to do it, and it leads to their downfall.

Another thing you can do is to read a lot of novels and books. There is a lot of vocabulary on the SAT, and the more words you know the better chance you'll have of scoring highly on that section.

If you want to do well on the ACT, you need to make sure that you're ready for it. There are some specific things that you can do to help improve your chances of scoring well.

First, you should read things carefully, and that includes the main instructions, the instructions for each test, and the instructions for each question – as well as the questions themselves.

Second, you need to pace yourself. If you go too fast you may make more mistakes, but if you go too slow you won't be able to finish all of the questions.

A lot of people want to take a practice SAT before they take the real one so that they can be more prepared. Whether that will work for you largely depends on who you are and whether you need the test preparation.

Some people learn by doing, in which case the practice test might help you. Others learn by reading, in which case the books for test preparation would likely be more helpful than the practice tests. Some practice tests are also very different than others, and whether they help you often depends on that, as well.

A lot of people think that the SAT doesn't matter, but that's simply not true. Other than high school grades, the SAT is probably the most important thing that can affect whether a person gets into the college of their choice or has to settle for attending somewhere where the standards are not as strict.

This does not mean that these other schools are not good, but most people have an opinion about where they wish to attend school, and low SAT scores can keep them from that.
