Chapter 2 Test Concept Sheet 1. Translations: Af(B(x+C))=D If A is negative then f is flipped over x axis If B is negative then f is flipped over y axis If C is negative then f is moved right C If D is negative then f is moved down D *** When graphing you must start off with correct: Parent Graph the use translation in order from left to right. *** 2. Write the linear equations in the following forms Slope intercept: y=mx+b Good for: graphing Standard form: Ax+By=C Good for finding x and y intercept Point Slope: y-y1=m(x-x1) Good for: finding equation of a line Direct Variation: y=kx 3. Parent Graphs Y=x Y=x2 Y=|x| 4. Define Domain- set of all x values in a function Range- set of all y values in a function

Basics of Algebra Algebra is a division of mathematics designed to help solve certain types of problems quicker and easier. Algebra is based on the concept of unknown values called variables, unlike arithmetic which is based entirely on known number values. This lesson introduces an important algebraic concept known as the Equation. The idea is that an equation represents a scale such as the one shown on the right. Instead of keeping the scale balanced with weights, numbers, or constants are used. These numbers are called constants because they constantly have the same value. For example the number 47 always represents 47 units or 47 multiplied by an unknown number. It never represents another value.

Function Arithmetic Functions defined on the SAME domain, can be combined by addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (barring division by zero) to generate new functions.? CONSIDER: Given and (whose domains are assumed to be ) the following compositions:??????????In the case of division, we must restrict the domain to prevent division by zero. As such the domain of the new function becomes Polynomial Functions Given the simplest functions:?? (constant function)?? (Identity function)??We can combine these functions trhough arithmetic to create new functions? Any combination of addition, subtraction, and multiplication of and , results in the family of functions called "polynomials"????
