US History

This is a survey course that provides students with an investigation of important political, economic, and social developments in American history from the pre-colonial time period to the present day. Students will be engaged in activities that call upon their skills as historians (i.e. recognizing cause and effect relationships, various forms of research, expository and persuasive writing, reading of primary and secondary sources, comparing and contrasting important ideas and events).

Born in 1810 in Pompey, New York, Horatio Seymour first served as a Millitary Secretary. He soon became assemblyman of New York State, then mayor of Utica, and finally Governor of New York State.

Winfield Scott was born on a plantation near Petersburg, Virginia, on June 13, 1786. For a time he attended the College of William and Mary. He studied law in Petersburg until 1808 when he joined the U.S. Army and recieved a commission a captain of light artillery. He gained fame in the War of 1812 and in the Mexican War.
