Students will be engaged in activities that call upon their skills as historians (i.e. recognizing cause and effect relationships, various forms of research, expository and persuasive writing, reading of primary and secondary sources, comparing and contrasting important ideas and events).

Alton Brooks Parker graduated from Albany Law School in 1873 and entered practice at Kingston. From 1877 to 1885 he was surrogate of Ulster County. In 1884 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and in the next year was chairman of the Democratic state committee. From 1885 to 1889 he was a justice of the state supreme court, a member of the court of appeals, serving until his resignation in 1904 to accept the Democratic nomination for the presidency.

Walter Mondale was born on January 5, 1928, in Ceylon Minnesota, studying at Macalester College and the University of Minnesota Law School, privately practicing law from 1956 to 1960. George Brinton McClellan, born in Philadelphia, Dec. 3, 1826, after attending preparatory schools and the University of Pennsylvania, McClellan entered West Point in 1842, graduating second in his class in 1846. As a second lieutenant in the Engineer Corps, he immediately saw service in the Mexican war with General Winfield Scott. As such he was in the victorious campaign against Mexico City and was twice cited for brivets.
