US History

This is a survey course that provides students with an investigation of important political, economic, and social developments in American history from the pre-colonial time period to the present day. Students will be engaged in activities that call upon their skills as historians (i.e. recognizing cause and effect relationships, various forms of research, expository and persuasive writing, reading of primary and secondary sources, comparing and contrasting important ideas and events).

George Clinton was an American public official, influential in the politics of the Revolutionary and early national periods. Clinton served seven times as governor of New York (1777-1795 and 1800-1804) and was twice elected vice president (1805-1812), serving under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

A lawyer and statesman, DeWitt Clinton was born in Little Britain, New York, and as such was educated at Columbia College. Three years after graduating form his college in 1786, Clinton was admitted to the bar, became secretary to his uncle, George Clinton, who was the governor of New York. Soon after, he became a member of the Anti-Federalist party.

An American statesman and journalist, born in Jacksonburg Ohio on March 31, 1870, James M. Cox , after reporting and editorial experience he purchased the Dayton Daily News in 1898, gradually becoming owner of a chain of newspapers. He served in Congress between 1909 and 1913 and was governor of Ohio for two terms, between 1913 and 1915 and between 1917 and 1921.

Lewis Cass was born in Exter, New Hampshire, but about 1799 he left his home for Marietta, Ohio, where he entered the study of the law. He was admitted to the bar in December 1802 and soon after established himself at Zanesville, where he gradually acquired practice.
