Tippecanoe and Tyler Too: William Henry Harrison's successful campaign slogan. Won 80% of the electoral vote. Webster-Ashburton Treaty: Compromise over the Maine boundary. America received more land but England got the Halifax-Quebec route.Patched up the Carolina Affair of 1837. John C. Calhoun: Opposed Polk's high-handedness, avid Southern slave-owner. (Right to own property, slaves considered property) Martin Van Buren: Accepted name for a group of Democratic party politicians. Their activities centered in Albany. Leader of so-called Albany Regency. Helped create one of the modern party organizations in the United States. Osceola: When the Seminoles agreed to a settlement by which they ceded their land to the United States.
