history of the red cross
In 1859 a Swiss citizen by the name of Henry Dunant witnessed all the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino he was horrified by the sight of thousands but he saw wounded soldiers lying there, thousands of them with no one to help them. Because of this, he decided to suggest setting up a voluntary relief society with people trained in time of peace to help the wounded and hurt in a time of war. He also got an agreement to be called up to protect the wounded and those who look after them from further attack by enemy forces. In 1863, Henry Dunant got an unofficial international conference where it was agreed each country would form a relief organization to assist the army with medical predicaments. This was the beginning of the Red Cross.
