Chapter 9 APWH Notes November 20, 2011 Chapter 9: The Expansion of Civilization in Southern Asia Chapter Outline: India from the Mauryas to the Mughals. The Golden Religion: Early Southeast Asia. India from the Mauryas to the Mughals Overthrow of the Mauryas occurred in the early 2nd century B.C.E.-followed by several hundred years of disunity because the continent was divided into separate kingdoms. Dominate force in the North- Kushan State, established by Indo-Europeans who had been driven out of C. Asia by the Xiongnu. Kushans penetrated into the mountains N. of the Indus River. Next 2 centuries the Kushans expanded their supremacy along the Indus and into the Ganges Valley. Dynasty began to weaken in the 3rd century C.E.

Chapter 10 Outline The Early Tang Empire; 618-755 The Tang had hierarchy from the turkic elites and lived by the Confucianism ways, they were also taken down by the Arab. Buddhism was used, like many Asian dynasties. They had protective spirits for the Princes competeing. Connections grew with Central Asian/Indian people. ltural influences and religious identities stayed strong. The Tang had good water/transportaion, which somewhat led to building a huge canal.
