British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology October 1998, Vol. 105, pp. 1052-1055 HYPOTHESIS Caesarean section: an evolving procedure? Almost 140 years after the publication of the theory of evolution by natural selection?, arguably one of the greatest achievements of science, we persist in failing to appreciate its proper application to the human species. We have a natural tendency to see ourselves as the unchanging pinnacle of creation, the supreme creation of nature, as if evolution were a ladder with Homo supiens at the top. Instead, we should see evolution as a tree, which proceeds by branching and not (usually) by wholesale transfor- mation and replacement?. Lauren Dutch Poem God has power and could have come, In a tornado, flood, or burning sun, But instead He chose to quietly appear, In a rugged stable on a night so dear. God has power and could have said, ?Prepare my son a luxurious bed!? But instead He chose to be born, In a wooden manger, early morn. God has power and could have told, King Herod not to be so bold, But instead He warned the father, Go to Egypt where there?s no bother. God has power and could have done, All these things before the rising sun, But He is kind, and He is giving, And wants us to show Him through our living.

Chapter 2 Questions 1. The study of population is important for three reasons: 1) More people are alive at this time ? nearly 7 billion ? than at any point in Earth?s long history 2) The world?s population increased at a faster rate during the second half of the twentieth century than ever before in history 3) Virtually all global population growth is concentrated in LDC?s (lesser developed countries) At one point, more developed countries had children. Now lesser developed countries have higher amounts of children, and they don?t have the resources to raise these children. Population geographers are never wrong, always right.
