differences~
southern colonization was instigated because of the want for land and new world riches. new england was colonized for religious freedom. ex. William Penn's Pennslyvannia, separatist pilgrims in plymouth, and non-separatist puritans in MA bay colony.

since the southern colonies had fertile land, they were able to stabilize their economy by mass producing staple crops- mainly tobacco, rice, and sugar. Because of the rocky terrain in new england, colonies flourished their economies by turning to industries such as fishing, shipbuilding, and fur trading. Any farms they owned where small unlike the plantations of the south.

southern governments were thinly spread country ones. New England colonies had small, personalized town meetings in which they discussed issues.

new england confederation (4 colonies) formed with each colony member recieving two votes. southern colonies didn't really unify.

schools, churchs, cities hard to build in southern colonies because plantations; easier in new england.

similarities~

virginia's house of burgesses and Mass (after dominion of NE fall) allowed all landowners to vote.

all colonies majority of pop. were protestant
all permitted some degree of religious tolerance especially penn, rhode island, and maryland.

1. Describe what you think was the consequences of the absence of towns in the colonial South and what town life contributed to the lifestyle of the New Englanders.
2. Did distinctions of wealth and status in the colonies widen or narrow from 1770 to 1750. Explain at little.
3. Which was the most influencial denomination in colonial American: Anglican, Presbyterian, or Congregational?
4. Why did the Ohio Valley become the arena of conflict between the French and English in America?

1. cities were hard to build in the south because of the large number of plantations created for the production of staple crops. in new england, the rocky terrain did not allow for such methods and thus gave way to the establishment of cities.

new england education was much better than that of the south and their discussions in the congregational church ultimately factored into democracy. few cities in south so development of education and churches were slowed.

2. social class differences became more astute. rich farmers, lawyers, officials, and clergymen (the aristocrats) had much social influence and power.

3. hmm... congregational in my opinion

4. ohio valley was strategically important for both. american colonies wanted it because it was a good region for trading and expansion westward. the french wanted it as it was the route southward west of the appalachians.

If we're talking thirteen colonies only, then
there only similar experiences i can think of right now are european and indian hostility and the presence of a foreign colony. Like in the south there were french louisana and spanish florida. in new england there was dutch New Netherland and swedish New Sweden.

There was the use of indentured servants and slaves... religion definitely played a big part...

sry, i'm not of much help. i'll look around and see what i can find...
