Quote:I am agnostic, I don't see how you could fully believe that a God does or doesn't exist when there is no proof one way or the other.
There is no proof that aliens exist or don't exist, there is no proof that we live/don't live in a Matrix world, there is no proof that what we see/don't see is there/real.
My point is, because you can't prove something wrong doesn't mean it's right. (Rather because you can't prove something doesn't exist doesn't mean it does.

That's really confusingly worded... I'm just saying, people have arguements one way or the other, but neither can be proven by realistic standards, so I can't choose. If God came out of the sky and said "Yo." I'd believe, and if it was somehow possible to scientifically prove God doesn't exist, then I'd believe that.
QUOTE TIME!!!
Note: this is not in response to you specifically erikvarho, but to the general discussion.
Now, with out further ado, words from Albert Einstein:
"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."
"The more I study science the more I believe in God."
Okay, I'm note exactly sure if I agree with the first part of the first one, but definitely the second part as well as the second quote. Sorry Armando, couldn't find you any quotes in my limited time :( . Anyways, let me start catching up on three pages of posts...
1- The bible being written by men
Well, think, in that time period how many women were respected enough and literate enough to write the bible?
2- Bible as a religious document
Yes, I do think it's religious, but I also think there was a political agenda behind it. Example...See, this was the time when they were fighting against pagans. As some of you may know (not sure how many if any) pagans viewed the snake very positively, the symbol of rebirth or something like that. Now, I think we all know how the bible portrays the snake, even those who have not read it. Symbols can be very powerful.
Oh, and side note, many pagans viewed women as equals or even as gods.
3- Judgemental Christians
We are all judgemental. Some of us simply prefer to keep it to ourselves
4- Erikvarho's last post
You pretty much got Armando's point, or rather had the same point. I agree with Armando's statement.
5-Interesting point
No one has brought up polytheism...
6- My belief (well, a small part of it)
Kinda like the clockmaker theory if anyone's heard of it...kinda
7- Capt. Canada
Thanks for the compliment ;) . Sorry about your religious troubles.
8- Faith
Faith is a very powerful thing...
9- Final thought (for now...)
For those of you who are out of the loop...The correct religion is the mormon religion :D .

haha mormons are tight. they are imo most respectable church. their bishops or any leaders of the church do not get paid. you shoudl not pay money to a man that preaches the words from god. mormons also are so uniformed, unlike the other churches that u see all spread out. i've gone to soo many different churches and it seems liek mormons are much better organized and teach very respectable things such as: no drinking, tobacco, premarital sex and etc. other churches teach these too but the ladder day saints stress it out a lot.
to my korean post buddy:
i gave u an example of calling you a fag telling you that you were a horrible gay person (which u kno i dont think so at all). i kept calling you gay, and u knew you werent gay. wouldnt you be annoyed at least if not insulted? of course it would feel a little uncomfortable on your mind.
no religion is true as of the moment, because the second coming of christ has not happened yet. and if it does, christianity woudl be right.
faith is what makes peopel believe in a religion. many peopel dont like to have faith, because it's just like believing in something that you've never seen, it's never been scientifically proven, you cant breathe it in liek air, yet you still have a strong trust in it. if you tell me that christianity is right, ok that is based on your faith. but you should not tell me to go to hell for not believing the same thing you do (which i kno u wont i hope). if u want to convert me, you should have discussions with me, slowly engage and slowly talk to me about the gospel and how it's changed ur life and bal bla bla. other than that, u shouldnt talk to anyoen about your religion, it's just too sensitive topic when you have nothing to prove it other than a book that is aroudn 2000 years old and been translated by many.
overall, religion is undebatable...you cant say which one is "true" because you cant use faith as an argument. but, you can say which church is the most "helpful", or "righteous".
Nice explanation of mormons, but I was just joking around...it's from South Park...It's the episode where Kenny helps Satan with his relational problems...

Mormonism (as in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) is pretty respectable these days, but if branch out to Mormon fundamentalism, or even the roots of early Mormonism, it's pretty out there. I reccommend reading Under The Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer, it's a great read that sheds some light on how crazy the extremists can be.
Mormons are cool, three of my best friends are mormons ;)

We do what we think is right, and people accuse us for being judgemental. But then again, people are judging us for being judgemental...so why judge us when they're judging us for our beliefs?

Yes I know you were joking :). But still, it wouldn't annoy me no matter how you kept calling me lol, because both the mocker and the person knows that it isn't true. Besides, just because one lousy comment against you shouldn't bring you down :D; more people might say more stuff against you but that still shouldn't let you down.
tallgeese wrote:many peopel dont like to have faith, because it's just like believing in something that you've never seen
But that's strange though... Everyone has faith even if it isn't a religious faith. What about people who have faith in themselves...doesn't that count? And these same people have the faith [in themselves] to reach for their goals; and most of the time, they do accomplish what they set.
As for telling you to go to hell...eh, I won't say it seeing that it would make you mad :D...but seriously, I don't say that to people. If they won't believe, then I wouldn't say that they'll go to hell. Besides, the sole purpose for Christians is to bring more people to heaven, not say that they are going to hell :D.
