Ditto to pianogirl's discription of communism!

And in response to Mike, you also have to look at other factors for the collapse of communism- in all instances that I can think of, the introduction of communism has been rapidly introduced- and if you look back at the basic idea of Marxism, of which I base my ideas of communism and socialism on, it's introduction was supposed to take place over a long and leingthly time to allow people to ajust. And there is a main fault of extreme socialism and communism, the belief that the resources of one will become the recources of another- that is why com. and soc. are REALLY hard to achieve, and arguments have been made that they go against human nature. But just because it hasn't happened succesfully yet dosen't mean that it never will. Remember that a democracy was thought just to be an idea that only 'looked good on paper' and was thought to only work with small groups untill the USA was formed.

Added thought...I don't think that America could become communist in the near future, or the not-distant-but-still-far-away future because let's face it, we're greedy.

Just look at Shirtninja's signature and you'll see what I mean.

that's pretty messed up. i guess you are not with the form of democracy at all. if people want a liberal leader, they will get one. if people want a conservative they will get one. why must u be so low and immature in attacking a political party? just because your arguments are irrational and getting stomped down in the 'gay marriage' thread does not mean you could come over to this one and start trash talking. from your post i can only imagine u as a junior high student.

America is not doing well economically. it'll have to collapse one day, because we are currently too relied on imports from other countries. if u want me to explain what will happen if china decides not to cooperate with americans, i will later ( i have a huuuuuuge art research to do).

Ok so you're wrong about the economy, read my respond to the is GWB an effective leader thread to find out why. Our economy has been doing very well. The US is a major importer of Chineese goods. That means if China decides not to cooperate with us it'll be worse for them than for us.

Socialism was founded on a utopian idea and it would be great if it worked out; but, it just doesn't. The only way it will ever work is if human beings become robots. As you said, we have greed and jealousy. But this is what makes us human. Desire is a trait shared by all human beings.

*Sigh* We can never have a discussion like this without bashing one political party or the other. Nothing is wrong with liberalism AND nothing is wrong with conservatism. The problem is the people who practice in such political parties. And we're not exactly the best economically as you say. With outsourcing the way it's going, more and more American jobs are being given to the East. And they're happy about it. Did you know that on average, almost 20 times as many Japanese learn English as we learn Japanese. They're slowly becoming more and more powerful. Sure, military is something, but not everything. Because you need money to fund said military. And where does that money come from? Anyone? That's right! Economics! (Tecnically the gov't, but where does the gov't get their money?) Personally, I don't believe communism would work, but I don't disagree with it totally. I think it's better that facism at least.

You want me to do what again?!

this is really interesting, because I was studying for my civil war test and my brother for his world history test on wednesday...and he was talking about how AMerica is soo similar to ROman empire and that we will cause our own downfall because of internal problems, like civil war! (oh, my goddd! what a coincidence ;))

yes i think this is a very likely possibility..unless we straighten out our values and our goals for this country..

That's true. China relies on U.S. for its economy. Had U.S. left it alone, China wouldn't be much developed as it is today (they really have cool looking buildings too :D).

Just remember that the Founding Fathers did not intend the American government to be democracy - they didn't think that average Joe would be responsible enough to decide who would run the government...

Ah, but my friend the Chinese economy is growing, is changing, is moving forward. My point is similar to Minifan's about Japan (and I know about the party thing...it is sad).

ABC News wrote:China graduates more than 325,000 engineers a year, five times as many as the United States. There are more Chinese learning English than there are native English speakers in the United States.

China is not as needy as you think. They are the "world's second-largest producer of the components that drive the Internet and the largest maker of some cell phone technology." Even if we boycott their stuff, even if we aren't importing that now, do you really think that other countries are going to stop buying that stuff? Do you really think that they can't find buyers? They are producing enginneers at an amazing rate. With that many how long do you think it's going to be before they start making technological breakthroughs? Not only do they have the educated people, they have the laborers as well to make their products. They are also making vehicles. Cars, jets, rockets, heck, they even have a train faster than the bullet. I have a suspicion that they will live without us.

If you compare China's communism to North Korea's I'd say China is much more relaxed than North... At least you can go to China and come back out... As for NK...you'll never be able to come out except for the tourist attraction, but they only show the "good" side of North Korea .

Random Fact Time once again!!!!

There's a theory by this guy, I forget who it is, but I learned it in 10th grade and this guy was like, back before we were a country...long before that. Anyways, he was saying that empires fall after three generations. The first generation builds it up from the ground, they truly appreciate how hard they had to work at it, how much of a sacrifice it took to make, so they respected it. The second generation grew up hearing the tales, learning the customs, but didn't really appreciate it that much. They understood that they had to work hard, but they didn't want to have to work very hard for what they had. The third generation heard even less of these tales and have little or no repect for what it took to maintain what they had, so, as a result, they lost it because they abused their wealth and power. And then the cycle begins again.

Maybe not entirely relavent, will cause some debate because I can already see two takes to this, but I thought some of you may be interested in it.
