Research shows that the emotional differences between men and women lies in how they react too and perceive emotions as opposed to whether men actually experience emotions or not. A recent study of over 55 cultures found that women can be more emotional, outgoing, diligent, and agreeable than their male counterparts. The study found that women are much better than men at reading other people?s emotional reactions whether it be verbally or visually. That does not mean that men are incapable of doing such, women are just better at it. In a similar study, researchers noted that women experienced love and anger much more intensely than men. In addition to that, it has been found that most differences between males and females may be a result of cultural stereotypes.

Sigmund Freud?s treatment of emotional disorders led him to believe that they spring from unconscious dynamics, which he sought to analyze through free association and dreams. He referred to his theory and techniques as psychoanalysis. He saw personality as composed of pleasure-seeking psychic impulses (the id), a reality-oriented executive (the ego), and an internalized set of ideals (the superego).
