Contemporary Approaches to Psychology Behavioral Approach emphasizes the scientific study of behavior and its environmental determinants. Example: Psychodynamic (Psychoanalytic) emphasizes the unconscious aspects of the mind, conflict between biological instincts and society?s demands, and early family experiences. Example: Humanistic approach stresses a person?s capacity for personal growth, freedom to choose his or her destiny, and positive qualities. Example: Cognitive approach emphasizes the mental processes involved in knowing: How we direct our attention, how we perceive, how we remember, as how we think and solve problems. Example: Neuroscience approach is the brain and nervous system are central to understanding behavior, thought and emotion. Example:
