American Identity and Unity The period 1750 to 1776 is considered by historians as the ?Road to Independence?. During the time period, many events occurred that ultimately placed American colonists on the inevitable path to a revolution. The events increased American identity and unity politically, socially, and economically leading up the American Revolution. By the eve of the Revolution, colonists had established a strong sense of their identity and unity as Americans.
