THE DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION ?Keith Montgomery The "Demographic Transition" is a model that describes population change over time. It is based on an interpretation begun in 1929 by the American demographer Warren Thompson, of the observed changes, or transitions, in birth and death rates in industrialized societies over the past two hundred years or so. By "model" we mean that it is an idealized, composite picture of population change in these countries. The model is a generalization that applies to these countries as a group and may not accurately describe all individual cases. Whether or not it applies to less developed societies today remains to be seen.

Post-War Decolonization and Social Developments Zain Qurahsi What were the consequences of the ending of the Cold War? Who won the Cold War and why? The consequence of ending the cold war was that the communist system in Europe ended. The Berlin wall collapsed and the tensions of cold war cooled down when the soviets had rivalries with china. U.S won the cold war because in the end they were the only military superpower standing. The USSR was gone in 1991 and U.S was still standing. It is still questionable though on who won because it wasn?t a physical war it was more of trash talking and small encounters which did not have much effect. In the end the communists lost. Describe the two postwar trends and their impact on Europe and the rest of the world?

People from all over the world have been emigrating to the Americas since the time of the conquistadores. Immigration to North America came in waves from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, often because of famine, lack of economic opportunities, and want of religious and political freedom. At the beginning of the twentieth century, industrial expansion and economic depression began to spark nativist sentiments, and Americans, fearful of losing jobs to unskilled laborers, demanded greater restriction in immigration policy. It became increasingly more difficult to enter the United States, especially for immigrants from southern and eastern Europe. .

There were many demographic changes between the years 1750 and 1914. These included industrial changes, changes in food supply, immigration, birth rate patterns, health, and slave trade. During the time, the Industrial Revolution took place. Much of the population, mostly young adults, moved to large cities to be involved in the growing industries. The middle class moved away from cities and into suburbs. The Industrial Revolution at first benefited the middle class, but later gradually worked its way into benefiting more people, such as the working class.

Arizona Immigration Law- Constitutional or not?

Vaughn Stumvoll Current World Problems CBA Arizona Immigration Law The law, SB1070, has been passed in Arizona. This makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally, and grants police the power to stop and verify immigration status of anyone they suspect of being illegal("SENATE BILL 1070"). This new law clearly violates the U.S. Constitution in two ways. To address the issue of illegal immigration patching up the border should be more of a priority than getting illegals out of the U.S.

Impact of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Slavery, and the Civil War The strength of Uncle Tom's Cabin is its ability to illustrate slavery's effect on families, and to help readers empathize with enslaved characters. Stowe's characters freely debated the causes of slavery, the Fugitive Slave Law, the future of freed people, what an individual could do, and racism. Writing in the 1950s, poet Langston Hughes called the book a "moral battle cry for freedom." According to legend, Abraham Lincoln greeted Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1862 by saying "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war." Whether the story is true or not, the sentiment underscores the public connection between Uncle Tom's Cabin and the Civil War.
