Also, Uncle Tom?s Cabin was written after 1850 when the Fugitive Slave Act was passed. This Act made it illegal for anyone to offer assistance to a fugitive slave. Throughout the novel, the author illustrates why it is moral to help those who are enslaved; it could be said that Stowe wrote this book to go against the Fugitive Slave Act.
