Conflicts in Mexican region Texas Independence ? 1844 Prior to 1844, Texans were calling for independence joining the Union. John Tyler, part of the Whig party, supported the annexation of Texas, hoping it would get him reelected. However secretary of state John Calhoun connected the annexation of Texas with the expansion of slavery, which heightened fears in the North. Wilmot Proviso ? 1846 In 1846, the Wilmot Proviso was included in a bill regarding the territories acquired from Mexico. It declared that ?Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall ever exist in any part of said territory?.

1. Satrap- was a governor figure who supervised a Persian province. The most important duties included collecting and sending tribute to the King. They were normally connected or related to the royal family. Satraps required knowledge about local conditions and formed connections with the local native elite. 2. Zoroastrianism- was a religion originating in ancient Iran with the prophet Zoroaster. It centered on a sing benevolent deity. Ahuramazda, who engaged in a twelve- thousand year struggle with demonic forces before prevailing and restoring a pristine world. It demanded that humans choose between good and evil basing on truth- telling, purity and reverence for nature. You would be rewarded in your afterlife or punished.

Chapter 1 Summary: Monuments of ?rock art? from tens of thousands of years ago have been found all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, the Americas, and Europe. Early societies had different opinions on where the human race came from. The Yoruba believed people came down from the sky, and the Hopi believed that people emerged from a hole in the earth.

Accomplishments and Personal Legends What was your latest accomplishment? It doesn?t have to be big or outstanding, perhaps you completed a laundry list of chores, but have you followed your personal legend? In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Santiago is a boy who wanted to travel and became a shepherd. Along his travels he has a strange dream in which he is brought to the pyramids. Then he meets an old king who inspires him to follow his dream and go to the pyramids of Egypt. By the end of the book Santiago has met many people including an alchemist who guides him to his treasure. In my project I have shown a map of his journey including five scenes from the book.
