The Second Inaugural Address of Lincoln Saturday, March 4, 1865 President Lincoln?s purpose for delivering the Second Inaugural address ? this formal ceremony marks the beginning of his second term presidency. President Lincoln had two major items in his agenda. One, the slavery (Emancipation Proclamation - Thirteenth Amendment) as a central issue of the Civil War (He viewed the Civil War as a punishment from God for the national exploitation of colored slaves); and he also kept in mind the Nation and possible reunification and reconciliation between the North and the South (Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction).

Diana Chetnik 10-27-13 APUSH Ch. 11&12 Chapter 11 ?new navy?- The navy founded by Adams and seemed unnecessary and extravagant. Also known as ?John Adam?s Jackasses? Jefferson- The third president of the US. He won by a majority of 73 electoral votes to 65. He was inaugurated on March 4th, 1801 and reelected in 1804. Aaron Burr- Turned New York to Jefferson, helping him win the election. In 1804 challenged Hamilton to a duel, killing him and fled. In 1806 he was arrested and tried for treason. Was freed the next year. Lame-duck - A term used to humorously defined as a politician whose political goose has been cooked at the recent elections. John Adams- Second President of the US. Last federalist president.

Brother's Blood and Border Blood The remaining Border States of the United States were very crucial for both the North and the South, as they could secede at any moment and join the South, thus putting Washington, DC in danger. The Border States have not yet seceded, but they could at any time. If they did, Washing DC (the North's capital) would be completely surrounded my seceded states and could easily be attacked. Lincoln had to act fast to keep these Border States in the North, so he used "dubious" legal methods such as sending troops to Virginia and Missouri to secure these areas. Lincoln assured the Border States that he was only trying to save the union and not free the slaves, as all the border states were slave states. The Balance of Forces

ADVANCED PLACEMENT UNITED STATES HISTORY IDENTIFICATIONS FOR UNIT III "Corrupt Bargain" The charge made by Jacksonians in 1825 that Clay had supported John Quincy Adams in the House presidential vote in return for the office of Secretary of State. Allegedly Clay knew he could not win, so he traded his votes for an office. Tariff of Abominations 1828 - Also called Tariff of 1828, it raised the tariff on imported manufactured goods. The tariff protected the North but harmed the South; South said that the tariff was economically discriminatory and unconstitutional because it violated state's rights.
