Summer is every teens wish. It is when you are free from school for about 3 months or more. No more work that you have to do. No teachers, no cafeteria, no stress, no nothing. Just a hot sunny day and no school work or homework to do. Heaven right? Wrong. Don’t forget the summer reading and the summer work. Just when you thought that you were free. On top of that you have to look at colleges.

Walking into your highschool, no matter how intimate and small the surrounding and population is to how large and daunting the students and faculty are, one is there for an experience that isnt readily found anywhere else. Highschool is to find out, chip the iceberg, in terms of figuring out who you are and what you want to do with the rest of your life, or rest of the iceberg. The nonconformists are usually viewed as the outcasts of the "weirdos" by many people because they dared to be different, but trully they are trully embracing highschool.
Nothing beats touring Europe over the summer and nothing would be worse if you didn’t leave prepared. In addition to different power outlets and driving on the opposite side of the road, there are cultural differences and safety issues to be aware about. Two years ago, I went to Paris, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Cologne and Brussels and this July I’m going to Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice. I won’t say I’m a genius when it comes to packing and prepping for overseas vacations, but here are a few things to bear in mind:
Summer projects, the most dreaded assignment of them all and perhaps the cruelest. How can one be expected to sit and read “My Antonia” while the sun shines brightly outside and knowing that everyone is doing something more interesting than you are? For some unlucky students, summer projects don’t stop at summer reading.
Most AP classes require a project or packet or research paper of some sort to be completed in the summer and will be counted for some type of grade in the first marking period.
Dear Incoming Seniors,
I bet you're worried about the application process that you'll suffer through this fall. And I bet that with this economic dip, you're also worried about how to pay for all of those application fees, not to mention the costs of tuition, board, books, and other living costs.
If you're a high-achieving, low-income student, the Questbridge application process is something you should definitely take a look at!
Questbridge has two programs- the College Prep Scholarship, and the College Match program.
A wise man once said peace is that which underlies all of the human emotions and human colors. Without peace, there can be nothing more. Peace encourages love and devotion.
When I think back about all those weekends I spent at home studying for the SAT, AP, or IB, I am filled with regret. After all, we are not only what our application indicates. To achieve the GPA and SAT scores my parents required of me, I gave up my passion for music, dance, and art. These ‘insignificant’ aspects of my life were pushed out of the picture because they played no role in determining my admission to a college.
The first day I got to my college orientation it hit me: I won’t be able to see my friends from high school when I’m here in a few months. It finally dawned on me. I will be alone. Without the comfort of relationships I’ve been fostering for years.
