Choosing classes can also be difficult though, as most of us have either absolutely no idea what we want to do in life, or we are not so sure. This is a chance to give you some extra experience in something that may become your subject of study in college. It may help you to use these tips when choosing your classes for next year, so at least keep them in mind.

We oftentimes get caught up in the myth of the “well-rounded student.” Most of us think the perfect student is involved in a little bit of everything. Many students seem to believe that the perfect applicant is involved with a ton of clubs and activities (especially sports), holds many officer positions, and has excellent test scores and grades. While these are undoubtedly important, more and more colleges are looking for “angular students” rather than stereotypical well-rounded students. They are looking for ambitious students with a genuine passion for something.

SATs are very important to high school students thinking about college. I know that when I entered my junior year, I knew that SATs were one of the major parts of the year. I spent much of the year concentrating on other things within my school, but I knew that I would soon have to prepare myself. As difficult as it was to balance SATs with schoolwork and everything else keeping me busy, the best advice that was given to me about preparing myself was to not overwhelm myself.

A day in the life: Monday-AP Spanish Language Exam, Tuesday-AP Calculus AB, Friday-AP U.S. History (Morning) and AP European History (Noon); will you be ready for AP Exam Hell Week? AP exams offer an opportunity to show colleges and universities what knowledge you have acquired in the span of a school year and can get you college credits if you score decently enough (you should check at one of your prospective college’s websites to see their credit policy to see if they will grant you credit for certain subjects).

Summer is here, and for many of us (me included), it's a time for some well-deserved R&R. But for some others, summer means SAT prep. I swear that I've gotten at least a dozen e-mails regarding SAT prep classes, and while I've never had the motivation to wake up that early during my summer, I've seen plenty of my friends spend their weeks in and out of SAT prep.

As a high schooler, college applications have to be one of the more daunting tasks you’ll encounter in all four years, hands down. You can first begin to sense it around September and October of senior year when the air in the senior hallway always seems to be thick with flying rumors about what so-and-so’s older sibling told them about college apps, or the latest hushed speculation of where people might be applying. The trickiest part of this is simply wading through the reams of advice you'll get, trying to figure out what's sensible, and what's bogus.

“Ohh I see… WAIT!? What’s your country’s Name? And that’s located, where? Ohh Paraguay and that’s in…. AFRICA!?” I constantly get that. People always tend to ask me where I’m from. My answer: Asuncion, Paraguay. Reaction: read introducing sentence. People look amazed when I give them such a rare and uncommon location. I mean seriously, all of those who have heard of Paraguay say AY! Anyone? Perhaps two, I guess.
