?The Internet?s Dark Side? If we think about it, the internet is a wonderful invention. It has allowed us to search answers to many of our questions, let us communicate, and entertained us with videos and games. It has become an important aspect of our life, since Americans go on it for hours a day. Despite its good, useful abilities, the internet is also dangerous to us. It is the cause of many issues. The internet causes addiction, isolation from society, and poor health.

For a few professional athletes, taking steroids has become a great regret. Take Lance Armstrong, for example. He had all of his glory of winning 7 Tour de Frances and titles taken away when it was discovered that he took this drug. While steroids generally have a negative connotation and are notorious for enlarging muscles and physical performance, there is some controversy over the topic of whether or not they should be allowed in sports. Some people are for the motion to accept steroids. Others are against this. I, on the other hand, am in between these positions. I don?t support or oppose the use of steroids in sports.

Tiffany Guo ?Handling Your Money? Money is a crucial factor in everybody?s lives. Without it, we will all go hungry and live without a roof over our heads. That is why we pour our sweat and tears to earn in, starting from our youth, when we are educated to get a job. It is also common sense that money isn?t limitless. Imagine all of that hard work wasted, with your money dwindling away and worthless junk coming in. You spent all of your money for no good reason. That is why we need to be so careful in spending it. People can spend their money more wisely by paying off debt, investing, and focusing more on their needs.

In 1894, Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish captain in the French army was accused of high treason for selling military secrets to Germany. Despite his efforts to prove that he was innocent, he was sentenced to life imprisonment at Devil?s Island. He stayed there for years, even though there was evidence that another man was guilty. After a hundred years since he was accused, and two trials, the French army finally stated that Dreyfus was innocent. This trial is famously known as the Dreyfus affair. This event changed the world deeply, as it elevated Anti-Semitism, enraged Jews, and divided France into groups.

Generation after generation, America has become fiercer and more competitive with each one. With survival in the global economy getting tougher by the years, parents are also becoming involved in pushing their kids harder. These moms, referred to as ?Tiger Moms?, are especially difficult on their children. An example is Amy Chua, a Yale University professor and the mother of Sophia and Lulu. After the publication of her book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, there were controversial thoughts on her aggressive parental methods. Some thought that she was what a mother should be like, while a number believed that she was just cruel to her children. I, on the other hand, am not sure what to think on Amy Chua?s way of being a parent.

The Power of Ignorance No one can deny that education is an essential part of life. Since the beginning of their existence, humans have had an everlasting thirst for knowledge. They just cannot help being curious. People strive, struggle, and seek for wisdom to satisfy this desire. However, does that also mean that knowledge will give them happiness? It is not necessarily so; sometimes, it is better to not know anything. ?Flowers for Algernon?, a short story written by Daniel Keys, proves that ignorance is bliss.

?All Summer in a Day? ?All Summer in a Day?, by Ray Bradbury, is a short story about a girl named Margot. She was born on Earth and moved to Venus, where it rained constantly, when she was 4 years old. She remembered how the sun looked like and yearns to see it again, while her classmates did not. They all resent her for that fact, and lock her up. After playing in the sun for the first time, they remember that Margot was still in the closet that they locked her up in, and are all flooded in horror and extreme guilt. Ray Bradbury illustrates the theme of jealousy, mom mentality, and bullying through characterization, the tone, and the actions of Margot?s classmates.
