Contrasting Twelve Angry Men to Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry By: Oscar C Carrillo The characters in these books have to face their responsibilities to right injustices or wrongdoing. In Twelve Angry Men and Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, the characters frequently face prejudiced opinions and threats of harm in many ways. Socioeconomic prejudice takes place in both books because of judgments and prejudices against the lower class because of their socioeconomic status. Both books also contain struggles of inherent power. However, in Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry most struggles are due to racism, which is not the case in Twelve Angry Men. In both these books the main theme is how characters have to figure out how to face their responsibilities to right these injustices

Freedom My name is Walter, and I was born a slave in North Carolina. Now, I am in Virginia.. I?d been working in tobacco fields since I was a boy. Planting? harvesting...binding and stacking. Backbreaking work, sunup to sundown. I slept in a wooden cabin with three other slaves, a boy named John, the mother: Jackie and her daughter; Lindsay. I slept on an old hay mattress on the floor for a bed. Next to the bed, there was a chair that had a candle as our only light source. There was never any privacy. The master of the house was named Jim. Master Jim didn?t do one thing in the house. He explained ?you Negro?s do everything I ask of you, no ifs, buts, or what?s!? It?s Warm, Not Hot My comfort food is a popular one among many Chinese food lovers. It has warmed me during the cold winters, swept away stressful thoughts, and told me a story of a great general. Mentioning ?a great general,? might have already blown my cover that I was hinting at General Tso?s Chicken. It has a reputation of being a really spicy dish among Chinese food and I love it, even though I cannot really handle spicy food well. I will always remember my first encounter with it, standing besides my uncle tossing the chicken on the flaming wok.

Nothing is a Breeze I grew up in a family who opened and managed Chinese restaurants. From a young age I was taught responsibility and leadership. However, at the time I hated my parents? lectures and the loss of my free time. Unlike the other kids who ran around and played, I had to ?help my parents.? As a child it seemed as if my parents did not want me to have fun or enjoy my life. But, after many years I realized their priority and appreciated their teaching and their care.
