Henry the VIII Henry VIII is an interesting historical figure because he is, at the same time, considered both a heroic and villainous person. He can be considered heroic because he himself knew how to use his power as the King of England. He was the founder and the supreme head of the Church of England. (today known as the Anglican Church) He stood up against the Roman Catholic Church which was the most powerful organization in Europe at the time. He greatly increased the size and power of the Royal Navy - an instrument that would make England the most powerful nation in the world for almost 300 years. He united England and Wales permanently. He was popular in England because he was the father of Queen Elizabeth I, one of the most beloved monarchs in British history.

The Parliament was called the Reichstag, and was run by proportional representation. There would be an elected President as well, who could dismiss the Chancellor or the Prime Minister, and govern by decree (don't need Parliament's approval to pass laws) during an emergency.

Kristin Stetzel Mr. Brennan Sparta High School Homework The term ?Renaissance Man? is one who is capable of excelling in a wide variety of activities.
